On Tuesday, Cybereason Nocturnus published a new report on the cyberattackers, believed to be working for “Chinese state interests” and clustered under the name “DeadRinger.” According to the cybersecurity firm, the “previously unidentified” campaigns are centered in Southeast Asia – and in a similar way to how attackers secured access to their victims through a centralized vendor in the cases of SolarWinds and Kaseya, this group is targeting telcos. Cybereason believes the attacks are the work of advanced persistent threat (APT) groups linked to Chinese state-sponsorship due to overlaps in tactics and techniques with other known Chinese APTs....

Dell first announced in mid-April that it would spin off its 81% majority stake in virtualization giant VMware. Dell last month announced October 29th as the date of the separation. At a press conference on Monday, US attorney general Merrick Garland announced indictments of 22-year-old Ukrainian Yaroslav Vasinskyi and Russian Yevgeniy Polyanin for their involvement in REvil’s operations. CyberScoop reported that Vasinskyi was arrested in Poland last month after leaving Ukraine and is now facing charges for the attack on Kaseya that infected more than 1,000 companies with ransomware this summer. Garland said that Vasinskyi – who went by the name “Rabotnik” online – was one of the masterminds behind the REvil ransomware and is facing extradition after being arrested by Polish authorities on October 8....
