The findings were made in a recent study examining the decision behind large banks reducing overdraft fees and the impacts overdraft fees have on retail banking customers. The retail banking insight found that 40% of retail bankers are classified as vulnerable – customers who aren’t financially secure and are susceptible to detriment – with 37% of retail bankers classified as financially healthy. The study also found that 18% of vulnerable customers owed banks money due to overdraft fees during the last three months compared to 4% of healthy customers....

But a month after the Apache Software Foundation disclosed Log4Shell in its Log4J library on December 9, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said it hasn’t seen any major breach arise from the attack, with the exception of an attack on the Belgian Defense Ministry. The reason for the initial concern was that the Java-based application error logging component was embedded in so many in-house enterprise applications and hundreds of products from VMWare, Oracle, IBM, Cisco and others....
M1 said in a statement Wednesday it would fork out an estimated 111 million ringgit ($26.17 million) for the transaction, which would be carried out through its Malaysia-based subsidiary AsiaPac Technology. AsiaPac itself was acquired by M1 in 2018. Under the deal, GCS and GCIS would be restructured as wholly-owned subsidiaries under Glocomp and managed by one management team. Researchers from ESET say the new malware, dubbed ESPecter, was only found recently but the origin of the bootkit has been traced back to 2012 – suggesting that the software is stealthy enough to have avoided detection by cybersecurity teams for the best part of a decade. “We traced the roots of this threat back to at least 2012; it was previously operating as a bootkit for systems with legacy BIOSes,” commented ESET researcher Anton Cherepanov....
Researchers found that Predator was used to attack two people in June 2021. According to Citizen Lab, the spyware “was able to infect the then-latest version (14.6) of Apple’s iOS operating system using single-click links sent via WhatsApp,” according to Citizen Lab. Microsoft officials describe the MSA Preview versions of Lists as “a lightweight version of the Microsoft Lists app designed for small business and individual use in conjunction with your Microsoft account (MSA).” To access the preview, which is an online-only app, users can sign in at lists.live.com. Officials said the preview will be limited to 200,000 MSA accounts to start. XorDdos conducts automated password-guessing attacks across thousands of Linux servers to find matching admin credentials used on Secure Shell (SSH) servers. SSH is a secure network communications protocol commonly used for remote system administration. Once credentials are gained, the botnet uses root privileges to install itself on a Linux device and uses XOR-based encryption to communicate with the attacker’s command and control infrastructure. While crypto-mining malware could be just a nuisance, LemonDuck attributes suggest the attacker group really do try to own compromised networks by disabling anti-malware, removing rival malware, and even automatically patching vulnerabilities – a competitive effort to keep rival attackers from feeding off its turf....
