During 2021, STG picked up McAfee Enterprise for $4 billion, before paying $1.2 billion to purchase FireEye. In announcing Trellix, the company detailed the new business would focus on threat detection and response using machine learning and automation. It also said at the time not all of McAfee Enterprise would be bundled into Trellix. The remainder, which is the security service edge portfolio will now come under the newly announced name of Skyhigh Security....

The news comes from a Financial Times article citing anonymous sources with inside knowledge of the company’s preliminary plans. According to “several people familiar with the matter,” Facebook intends to begin allowing users to post NFTs as their profile images and to upload or “mint” their own NFTs via a prototype system that will generate the required tokens needed to turn a simple image file into this new form of digital asset....

Microsoft says the hacking group, which it calls Actinium, has “targeted or compromised accounts” at Ukraine emergency response organizations since October. Actinium hackers also targeted organizations that would coordinate international and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, it says in a new report. “Since October 2021, Actinium has targeted or compromised accounts at organizations critical to emergency response and ensuring the security of Ukrainian territory, as well as organizations that would be involved in coordinating the distribution of international and humanitarian aid to Ukraine in a crisis,” Microsoft said....

In the Redmond giant’s latest round of patches, usually released on the second Tuesday of each month in what is known as Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has fixed problems in software including Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerabilities, privilege escalation security flaws, spoofing bugs, and denial-of-service issues. Products impacted by Microsoft’s December security update include Microsoft Office, Microsoft PowerShell, the Chromium-based Edge browser, the Windows Kernel, Print Spooler, and Remote Desktop Client....

Visual Studio 2022 is the first release of a 64-bit version of Visual Studio. By making Visual Studio 64-bit, officials said that they expect the release to make better use of all system resources, especially when working with more complex solutions over longer periods of time. According to Microsoft, during early VS 2022 testing, customers were able to run the VS IDE for days, even with solutions containing 700 or more projects....

The phishing schemes helped hackers coerce an unknown number of users into signing up for phony sweepstakes and subscriptions to steal their credit card details. This incident is evidence of a spike in the usage of “OAuth” attacks on organizations, researchers said. A powerful surveillance tool called Pegasus, made by Israeli firm NSO and licensed only to governments, was allegedly used in India to snoop on mobile phones of up to 1,000 people over the past six years, according to a groundbreaking global collaborative investigation by a consortium called the Pegasus Project.
