On Wednesday, cybersecurity researchers from JFrog said that hundreds of malicious packages have been identified, created to steal valuable personally identifiable information (PII) from developers. According to researchers Andrey Polkovnychenko and Shachar Menashe, the repositories were first detected on March 21 and steadily grew from roughly 50 malicious npm packages to over 200 in a matter of days. The miscreants responsible for the npm repositories have developed an automated script that targets the @azure npm scope, alongside @azure-rest, @azure-tests, @azure-tools, and @cadl-lang....

Working with a series of partners including Evolve Bank & Trust, Paxos Trust Company, and Circle, Mastercard said it will begin testing the ability for banks and crypto companies to offer a card option for people wanting to spend digital currencies anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Specifically, Paxos and Circle will use their platforms to facilitate the conversion of crypto to fiat through fiat-backed stablecoins, a class of crypto that’s backed by reserve assets for price stability....

Current Microsoft board chair John W. Thompson will be staying on the board as lead independent director – a post he held on the board from 2012 to 2014. Thompson led Microsoft’s search for a new CEO from 2013 to 2014. “In this (chair) role, Nadella will lead the work to set the agenda for the board, leveraging his deep understanding of the business to elevate the right strategic opportunities and identify key risks and mitigation approaches for the board’s review,” according to a company statement....

Microsoft’s partner network, which includes roughly 400,000 companies, is key to the way the company sells, as its own direct salesforce is not huge. Microsoft’s annual partner conference, Inspire, is slated to happen virtually again this year from July 19 to 20.

Two of the vulnerabilities are rated critical – CVE-2022-22006 and CVE-2022-24501 – while the rest are rated important. In the Redmond giant’s latest round of patches, usually released on the second Tuesday of each month in what is known as Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has fixed problems including remote code execution (RCE) vulnerabilities, denial of service bugs, privilege escalation bugs, spoofing issues, information leaks, and policy bypass exploits. None of the vulnerabilities are being actively exploited, but Sophos noted that a public proof-of-concept has been released for CVE-2022-21990....

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia noted that there are sufficient grounds to believe the cybercriminal group violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) and other digital crime laws by orchestrating attacks on Microsoft and its customers. Bohrium targeted Microsoft users in India, the Middle East, and the U.S. in a sophisticated spear-phishing campaign, Hogan-Burney said. A court hearing is scheduled for Friday, June 10....
