The South Korean electronics maker said on Friday that it recorded 3.551 trillion won in operating profit in 2022, a drop of 12.5% from a year ago. The global economic downturn increased costs for South Korean tech giants Samsung and LG last year while demand for consumer electronics that was high during the pandemic nosedived. According to analysis by cybersecurity researchers at Trend Micro, Linux servers are “increasingly coming under fire” from ransomware attacks, with detections up by 75% over the course of the last year as cyber criminals look to expand their attacks beyond Windows operating systems. Linux powers important enterprise IT infrastructure including servers, which makes it an attractive target for ransomware gangs – particularly when a perceived lack of threat to Linux systems compared with Windows means that cybersecurity teams might choose to focus on defending Windows networks against cybercrime....

On February 22, JFrog cybersecurity researchers Andrey Polkovnychenko and Shachar Menashe said that 25 malicious Node Package Manager (npm) packages had recently been detected by the firm’s scanners, many of which are Discord token stealers. If an attacker is able to steal tokens, they can be used to infiltrate a victim’s account and hijack Discord servers. They can also be valuable assets suitable for sale in the underground criminal markets....

The flaw resided within macOS System Integrity Protection (SIP). The glitch allowed a potential attacker to install a hardware interface that allows them to “overwrite system files, or install persistent, undetectable malware”. The discovery reflects Microsoft’s increased focus on enterprise customers that use a mix of Windows and macOS under hybrid work arrangements, which is evidenced by products like its cross-platform security product, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
